I have had a few comments from others regarding the safety of Gel Candles. Prior to making them I did lots of research and most who believe they are not safe would be surprised at the statistics of Gel candles compared to others.
Fact: According to records of the Consumer Products Safety Commission out of 34 recalls, only 3 were gel candles. Research shows that most of the items that were recalled were due to large flames and breaking glassware. The remainder, 31 of the recalls, was for your normal Wax candle. Please visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission websight at www.cpsc.gov for more information.
What is the difference?
Gel is clear allowing many different designs and embeds. It melts at a higher temperature than wax, which means it burns hotter than wax. Only completely oil-soluble (non-polar) fragrance oils can be used with gel candles. Gel has a unique "glow" to it from the flame when burning.
